Smithsburg reach lacrosse semifinal-Saturday roundup

BOYS LACROSSE


SMITHSBURG - Sean Hunt had six goals and four assists to lead Smithsburg over Middletown 17-5 on Saturday in a Class 2A-1A West quarterfinal game.

Kyle Schellenberg had four goals and two assists, Mike Trueblood had two goals and two assists, Brent Barnes had two goals and an assist, Matt Holsinger had one goal and one assist, and Kody Snow had two goals for Smithsburg.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Tim Kellinger hit a two-run home run to help St. Maria Goretti beat Mercersburg. Josh Carter also hit a home run in the second inning, and was the winning pitcher for Goretti.

Matt Englehart hit a solo home run for Mercersburg in the seventh inning.

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Donell Lee drove in Juwaan Holmes in the bottom of the eighth inning for Jefferson.

Matt Noll had three hits and Denny Hartlove had two hits for Jefferson (29-8). Terry Mumaw was the winning pitcher.

Ronnie Shaffer, Brandon Combs, Ryan Woolum and Wes Kees each had two hits for Musselman (21-14), which will play Martinsburg on Monday.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Trey Arvon's sacrifice fly capped a two-run seventh to lift Martinsburg to a victory and eliminate Hedgesville in the West Virginia Class AAA Region II, Section 1 tournament.

Martinsburg parlayed two singles, two walks and the sacrifice fly into the winning rally.

Arvon finished with two hits and three RBI while Brentt Twigg and Joey Yurish each added two hits for Martinsburg (19-15).

Tim Cunningham led Hedgesville with two hits.

Martinsburg (19-15) advances to face Mussleman on Monday at 5 p.m.
