The Burgers

Carlos J. and June L. Burger of Hagerstown were surprised Sunday, March 3, 2002, at a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, at the home of their daughter, Debra Valentine. Family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and the YMCA gang attended the event, which carried a 1950s theme. The party was hosted by the Burgers' children, Debra Valentine, Kindra Brown and Brian Burger.

The Burgers were married March 7, 1952, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Burger is the former June Lucille Kauffman, daughter of the late George and Hazel (Duvall) Kauffman. She worked as a Washington County school crossing guard until her retirement.

Mr. Burger is the son of the late Franklin and Elizabeth (Zenkins) Burger. He is employed by Callas Contractors.

The Burgers have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Bakers

Mr. and Mrs. G. William Baker, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and formerly of Hagerstown, Lavale, Md. and Oakland, Md., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Thursday, April 18, 2002. They were honored with a dinner party at the Grill House in Myrtle Beach. The event was attended by friends and relatives.


The Bakers were married April 18, 1952, at First Baptist Church in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Baker retired from Garrett County Memorial Hospital after 17 years of service.

Mr. Baker worked for the Potomac Edison Co. for 45 years. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was PDG of Lions Club from 1977 to 1978.

They retired and moved to Myrtle Beach in 1994.

Their children and spouses are Karen and Larry Gilpin of Swanton, Md. and Dennis E. and Margaret Baker of Tyler, Texas. They have four grandsons and one great-grandson.
