New intermediate school in Berkeley County gets a name

May 09, 2002

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Berkeley County's new intermediate school now has a name.

The school for fourth- and fifth-graders, off Delmar Orchard Road, will be called Orchard View Intermediate, said Mary Jo Brown, spokeswoman for Berkeley County Schools.

The school, which will open in August, is on an orchard and is surrounded by one.

Students from Winchester Avenue, Berkeley Heights and Rosemont elementary schools will attend the new school.

The principal of the new school, Joyce Chapman, organized a 12-person committee that included parents of the students who will attend the school; staff of the new school; a representative of Citizens National Bank, which will be the school's business partner; and a lifelong resident who lives near the new school, Brown said.

The committee solicited names for consideration by placing suggestion boxes in the three schools and at the bank.

The committee chose about six names for consideration, and all the members favored Orchard View, Brown said.
