North's Tedrick extends homer streak

THURMONT, Md. - Matt Tedrick extended his home run streak to four games by hitting a pair of three-run shots Tuesday, leading North Hagerstown to a 13-8 win over Catoctin in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League game.

Tedrick finished with four hits and seven RBI. His second home run, which came in the fourth inning, put the Hubs (8-11, 8-9) ahead for good. He has six homers during the streak and eight for the season, tops in the Tri-State area.

T.J. Hose had three hits, while Aaron Davis, Matt Johnson, Jesse Bennaka and Matt Murray each had two.

Danny Novak had four hits for Catoctin (9-8, 9-7).

Brian McLaughlin, Sam Walls and Danny Hartlove each had two hits and Walls and Hartlove each drove in two runs for the Cougars (27-8, 7-3).

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Tim Cunningham and Josh Starliper both threw scoreless ball to pick up their first wins of the season, and the Eagles closed the regular season with a pair of wins in the Apple Valley League to pull back to .500.

In Game 1, Josh Runkles went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple and Ian Edwards drove in three for Hedgesville (14-14, 6-5). Matt Faircloth added three hits, Dirk Webb drove in two and Edwards, Webb and Cunningham all had two hits.

In Game 2, Matt Bartgis' three-run homer highlighted an eight-run third that put the game away. Edwards and Trey Hockman had three hits each, and Runkles and Faircloth had two each.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Bulldogs got three doubles in the first inning for the lead, and sealed the win on Bridget Merceruio's two-run single in the third to eliminate the Eagles in the Class AAA Region II Section 1 playoffs.

Kim Slaughter went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Heather Bell and Michele Scales both had two hits for Martinsburg (19-7), the section's top seed. The Bulldogs play Jefferson in the first game of the best-of-3 final series at 7 tonight at Charlotte Prather Park.
