John L. Herr

BOONSBORO - John Luther Herr, 90, of 8507 Mapleville Road, and formerly of 8 Ford Ave., who died Monday, May 6, 2002, was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth E. Herr; four sisters, Pearl Itnyre, Ella Moser, Freda Herr and Leda Herr; and three brothers, Russell Herr, Ernest Herr and Marvin Herr.

George W. Armstrong

BOONSBORO -George William "Buck" Armstrong, 65, of 7533 Old National Pike, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 3, 1937, in Chewsville, he was the son of the late George Edward and Florence Alberta Palmer Armstrong.

He was a 1956 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

He was employed by American Optical Co. in Frederick, and retired in 1993 after 14 years with Tamko Roofing Products in Frederick.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He attended Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 378, Hagerstown; and Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10, Boonsboro.


He is survived by his wife, Kathy Marie Castle Armstrong, whom he married Oct. 30, 1974; three daughters, Deborah S. Files of Hagerstown, and Bridget S. Armstrong and Georgette C. Armstrong, both of Boonsboro; one brother, Donald L. Armstrong Sr. of Boonsboro; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Armstrong.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro. The Rev. Louis R. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Co. 69, P.O. Box 7, Boonsboro, MD 21713; or American Diabetes Association, Maryland Affiliate, 3120 Timanus Lane, Baltimore, MD 21244.

Elizabeth P. Frazer

TUSCON, Ariz. - Elizabeth Piper Frazer, 89, of 892 Bentwater Place, and formerly of Dry Run, Pa., and Broomall, Pa., died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at her home.

Born April 27, 1913, in Dry Run, she was the daughter of the late Stark and Effa Line Piper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Frazer, in 1970. They were married June 26, 1937.

She was a 1934 graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia.

She worked as a nurse, and as a librarian at Marple Public Library in Broomall.

She attended Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church, Spring Run, Pa.; and Marple Presbyterian Church, Broomall.

She is survived by three daughters, Diane Vale of Tuscon, with whom she lived, Linda Clair of Lancaster, Pa., and Nancy Rossi of West Chester, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Shearer; and one brother, William Piper.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run. The Rev. Ted Hale will officiate. Burial will be in Upper Path Valley Cemetery, Fannett Township, Pa.

Marvin W. Gardner

CLEAR SPRING - Marvin Woodrow Gardner, 90, of Clear Spring, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002.

Born Jan. 25, 1912, in Whitacre, Va., he was the son of the late Ferdinand James Gardner and Lula Belle Clark Gardner.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Smith Gardner; and one daughter, Judy of Wilmington, N.C.

He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.

Private services and burial were at the convenience of the family.

Francis A. Hayman Sr.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Francis A. Hayman Sr., 94, formerly of 6850 Tippetts Drive, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Shelter Island, N.Y., died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Twin Oaks Nursing Center, Campbelltown, Pa.

Born Aug. 23, 1907, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret Brady Hayman.

He was an accountant.

He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Mercersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Katharyn Horan Hayman; two sons, Francis A. Hayman Jr. of Mercersburg, and John J. Hayman of New York; and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Mercersburg. The Rev. Joseph L. Stahura will be celebrant. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Isle Cemetery, Shelter Island.

Visitation will be today at 10 a.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.

Bessie E. Souders

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Bessie E. Souders, 96, of Fulton County Medical Center Extended Care Unit, and formerly of Cito Road, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Fulton County Medical Center.

Born June 25, 1905, in Galesburg, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Jackson S. and Alice St. Clair Everetts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Elwood Souders, in 1989.

She worked for the Fulton County Medical Center as a housekeeper and cafeteria worker. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses in McConnellsburg.
