Truck spill closes Leitersburg Pike


Leitersburg Pike was closed for several hours Monday after a Maryland Metals Inc. truck rolled on its side and lost its load, Maryland State Police said.

The accident occurred at about 11 a.m. at the intersection of Leitersburg Pike and Marsh Pike north of Hagerstown, police said.

No one was seriously hurt, police said.

It took at least three hours to clean up the load of metals that had spilled onto the road, police said.

Robbers steal cash from Four Points


The search was still on Monday night for two men who robbed a Four Points Sheraton clerk at gunpoint earlier in the day, making off with cash from a safe, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

No one was hurt in the 2:45 a.m. robbery, deputies said.

"The safe was a locked file drawer," said Deputy Brian Burke. "Also taken was a large set of keys."

Burke said Four Points officials spent much of Monday changing locks.

The robbers entered the main lobby of the Dual Highway hotel and one of them pointed a handgun at the night desk clerk and made the clerk get down on the floor, deputies said.

The robbers left the hotel carrying the safe, which contained a large amount of cash, deputies said.

The men were described as black males wearing black parkas, dark cloth caps and dark scarves wrapped around their faces, police said.

Bicyclist treated and released after crash


BOONSBORO - A bicyclist participating in a spring race at Greenbrier State Park on Sunday afternoon was treated at Washington County Hospital for a head injury and released.

Jonathan Wallace, 26, of State College, Pa., was taken to the hospital shortly after the 1:30 p.m. accident, Sgt. Angie Olah, a Maryland Forest and Park Service ranger, said.

Wallace was thrown from his bike after it hit a rock, Olah said.

Police looking for driver in hit-and-run accident


FREDERICK, Md. - Police were looking for the driver of a car that hit a Frederick man early Monday and fled the scene.

The victim, whom police did not identify, was flown by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter to Washington County Hospital after the 1:50 a.m. accident.

A check at the hospital Monday night revealed he was no longer a patient there.

The man was walking through the parking lot near his home in the 1400 block of Key Parkway when the car hit him head-on, backed up and drove around him, police said.

A witness said the driver was in a compact blue or aqua green car, police said.

Pa. man charged with stealing from vehicles


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg Police have charged a borough man in connection with thefts from vehicles parked outside of a restaurant Saturday night.

Six vehicles outside Schoenberger's, at 346 Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg, were entered and cash and several items were stolen, police said.

A suspect was apprehended a short distance away, police said.

Police charged Curtis L. Myers, 21, of 697 Center St., Chambersburg, with theft from a motor vehicle and criminal mischief.

SUV driver taken to hospital after crash


A single-vehicle accident that took out a utility pole on the Downsville Pike Monday night also sent the driver of a sports utility vehicle to Washington County Hospital after she was freed from the wreckage.

After working about 15 minutes to free the woman, Williamsport Ambulance personnel took her from the scene at 8:42 p.m.

Maryland State Police were investigating the accident.
