Robert L. Monninger


GREENSBURG - Robert L. Monninger, 64, of Greensburg, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 13, 1937, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Jonathan Arthur Monninger and Dorothy H. Baker Reel.

He was owner/operator of D.B. Produce and Farm Machine Co.

He was a member of Church of Christ at Hagerstown.

He was a member of American Legion Post 10, Boonsboro.

He is survived by two daughters, Diane Green of Hagerstown, and Sandy Butzer of Everett, Pa.; one son, David L. Monninger of Hagerstown; one sister, Vivian Bishop of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a special friend, Patti Buhrman of Greensburg.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Monninger; one grandson; two half-sisters; and three half-brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Church of Christ at Hagerstown. The Rev. Casey R. Strunk will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Rodney L. Almond


FREDERICK, Md. - Rodney Lee Almond, 40, of 1307 Peach Tree Court, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, in Frederick.

Born Dec. 31, 1961, in Ayer, Mass., he was the son of Ben R. and Patricia Trostle Almond of Frederick.

He was a graduate of Largo High School, Upper Marlboro, Md.

He was employed as a mechanic at Stups Garage in Frederick. He retired in 2000.

He was a member of Belair Baptist Church, Bowie, Md.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandmother, Bennye Almond of Marshall, Texas; four sisters, Maris Burke of Annapolis, Shauna Uchytil of Farmington, Minn., Kambra Minor of Walkersville, Md., and Janina Rice of Frederick; five nieces; three nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Bethel Church, Cascade. The Rev. J. Kenneth Stalls will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, MD 21701.

Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa.

Isabelle L. McCleary


WILLIAMSPORT - Isabelle Louise McCleary, 83, of 11 H Milestone Garden Apartments, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at her home.

Born Dec. 7, 1918, in State Line, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Emma Johnston.

Her husband, Samuel Jacob McCleary, died in 1981.

She retired from L'Aiglon Dresses and E.J. Fennel.

She was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church, Williamsport.

She was a member of Ladies of Elks Lodge 378, Western Maryland Old Timers, Lady Elks Bowling League, Ladies Suburban Bowling League and Women of the Moose.

She is survived by one daughter, Darlene M. Semler of Clear Spring; one son, Richard E. McCleary of Hagerstown; two brothers, Guy Johnston and Frank Johnston, both of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Ann Zeger; one brother, Roy Johnston; two half-sisters, Clara Barnhart and Anna Burger; three half-brothers, George Spangler, Howard Spangler and Merle Spangler; and one grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Kroll will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harry A. Poole Sr.


UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Harry Ash "Cotton" Poole Sr., 73, of Union Bridge, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 12, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late George W. Poole Sr. and Ada Catherine Wofel Poole.

He was the founder of Harry A. Poole Sr. Masonry Contractor, to which he dedicated 29 years of masonry for Ryan-NV Homes.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick, Md.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris M. Rice Poole; seven sons, Harry A. Poole Jr. of Baltimore, Dennis L. Poole of Austin, Texas, Michael W. Poole of Rocky Ridge, Md., Larry E. Poole and James F. Poole, both of Woodsboro, Md., David S. Poole of Walkersville, Md., and John B. Poole of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Kathy Baker of Mt. Airy, Md., Teresa Wells of Libertytown, Md., and Maureen LeGore of Union Bridge; one sister, Gertrude Simmons of Hagerstown; 20 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam Poole, Richard Poole and George Poole Jr.; two sisters, Ann Miller and Margaret Hossler; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick. The Rev. Richard P. Rutkauskus will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
