No. 7 Blazey score 14 in second-area roundup

April 30, 2002

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Clear Spring coach Jim Hutson could only chuckle. For Southern Fulton, though, there was no laughing matter involved on Monday afternoon.

The No. 7 Blazers turned a seemingly harmless two-out, none-on situation in the second inning into a full-blown disaster for the Indians, scoring 14 runs on the way to a 14-2 victory.

"It's unbelievable isn't it," Hutson said. "When the dust cleared, it was pretty much a done deal."

Clear Spring (13-3) batted around twice in the inning in an attempt to warm up a frigid day. Despite their high home-run numbers, the Blazers didn't get a long ball at all.

"Once we had two outs, we hit the ball hard," Hutson said. "They hit some ropes out there. They made a couple of errors, but then we'd hit a rope, get a walk ... the kid couldn't buy an out."

Gerad Haupt and Kevin Mills both had two hits and four RBI, while Josh Barnhart went -for-2 and drove in two more runs for Clear Spring. Scott Ebersole hit a two-run homer to get Southern Fulton (6-7) on the board.
