Catoctin (8-6, 8-4) is currently in third place in the MVAL behind league-leaders Boonsboro (10-2) and Walkersville (9-3).
Catoctin scored four runs in the top of the second to stretch its lead to 5-0. The first three Cougar batters of the inning swung at the first pitch and they were able to put the ball in play to ignite the rally. Brad Jordan reached on a two-base throwing error, Geoff Hillis sacrificed where everybody was safe on a fielding error and Sam Kulceski followed with an RBI single to center.
Jason Johnson walked to load the bases. Dan Novak reached on a fielder's choice where the lead runner was out at home plate. Yocum then ripped a two-run single to left. After that, Novak scored for the second time in the first two innings on a wild pitch.
Catoctin senior pitcher Chris Legore (4-1) got the complete-game win to lower his ERA to 1.90. Legore fired a five-hitter as he gave up two earned runs and two walks, while striking out 11 batters.
"When you give (Legore) some runs to work with, then that cuts him loose," Catoctin coach Mike Franklin said. "He is able to make some challenging pitches when he wants to."
Eric Fitzgerald led Williamsport (7-10, 5-10) with two hits - including an RBI triple.
"Catoctin plays hard and they make all of the fundamental plays," Williamsport coach Rod Steiner said. "Legore had good location and he mixed the speed of his pitches real well."
