Chambersburg man dies in accident

GUILFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A Chambersburg, Pa., man was killed Saturday morning in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 11.

Wilmer Sheffield, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg said.

Sandra Sheffield, 59, also of Chambersburg, who was riding with him, was listed in critical condition Saturday night at Hershey Medical Center.

Police said Wilmer Sheffield's 1988 Ford Ranger was going south on U.S. 11 when it was struck by a northbound van about 8:45 a.m.

The van, a 1993 Chevrolet Mark III, was driven by Santiago Marquez, 45, of Chambersburg.

The accident happened in front of house number 3927 on U.S. 11, four miles south of Chambersburg, police said.

Later in the day, police still didn't know why Marquez's van crossed into the opposite lane and struck Sheffield's truck.

Marquez was also flown to Hershey Medical Center with what police characterized as severe injuries. He was listed in fair condition Saturday night.

Two passengers riding with Marquez were also hurt.

Joel Martinez, 24, of Chambersburg, was listed in satisfactory condition at Chambersburg Hospital Saturday night.

Ishmael Reid, 58, of Chambersburg, was treated for a minor injury at Chambersburg Hospital, then released.

The accident is still being investigated.
