Telethon raises $127,000

April 17, 2002

The 14th annual Parent-Child Center telethon raised $127,000 Saturday, said Millie Lowman, executive director of the center at 115 W. Washington St.

The goal of the three-hour effort on NBC-25 was to generate funds and improve community awareness of the center's efforts to promote a healthy, safe and nurturing environment for at-risk children and families, Lowman said.

Established in 1983 by the Exchange Clubs of Washington County, the private, nonprofit center provides prevention programs, advocacy services and parenting workshops.
