Adenhart strikes out 17 to lead Goretti

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Jon Sechler's return to the Jefferson' Sager Field was overshadowed by sophomore Nick Adenhart on Monday night.

Adenhart, a right hander, struck out 17 batters, allowed just one earned run on four hits and two hit batters as St. Maria Goretti upset No. 2 Jefferson 3-1 in an Apple Valley League game.

"A lot of people will lose to Adenhart," Jefferson coach John Lowery said.

Sechler, Goretti's first-year head coach, is a graduate of Jefferson. He turned the ball over to his ace, Adehart (3-2), who quieted Jefferson's bats.

Meanwhile, Goretti (6-5, 3-2) scored twice in the first inning and added an run in the sixth. Justin Staubs had two hits and two RBI while Josh Carter had two hits for the Gaels.


Jefferson drops to 15-5.

The teams meeat again 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jefferson.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Adam Caron hit a walk-off grand slam to help Waynesboro complete a eight-run seventh inning to complete a come-from-behind Mid Penn Colonial victory.

The Indians (4-5, 3-3) were held scoreless until a five-run fifth inning, keyed by Eli Rock's three-run home run.

But Waynesboro allowed seven runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh to take an 11-5 lead. Jeremy Geesaman had a two-run single and Phil Woodring had a two-run double before Caron ended the game.

Geesaman finished by going 5-for-5 with three RBi while Caron, Rusty Lynn and James Woodring finished with two hits each.

Adam Dick struck out seven as Smithsburg (3-4, 3-4) defeated North in an MVAL game.

Smithsburg scored on back-to-back-to-back doubles in the first inning as Drew Crawford, Gerry Spessard and Jeff Mills accounted for two runs. Spessard had two doubles and Crawford had two hits for Smithsburg.

Adam Johnson had an RBI triple for North.

FREDERICK, Md. - Julie Pallansch's two-run triple highlighted Frederick's four-run second inning to lift the Cadets to a Centeral Maryland Conference victory over Urbana.

Joyce Tsikerdanos capped the rally with a two-run single for Frederick (6-2, 3-1).

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Amber Skiles went 3-for-4, including a RBI single in McConnellsburg's six-run fourth inning, for a Sideling Hill victory over rival Everett.

McConnellsburg blew the game open with three singles, four walks and a Everett error to give pitcher Darcy Everetts the breathing room to close the game down.

Evertts allowed one earned run on three hits, but wiggled out of bases-loaded situations in the third and sixth innings to preserve the win for the Spartans (5-3, 3-1).

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Miley Stymiest singled to score Erika Besecker with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Waynesboro defeated Gettysburg in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game.

Helen Tayman, Holly Wagaman and Stymiest each had two hits for Waynesboro (5-3, 3-2). Wagaman (4-2) picked up the win in relief.
