Jefferson wins in 7th-local roundup

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Justin Dailey's single scored Matt Noll with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night as No. 3 Jefferson defeated Musselman, 7-6.

With one out, Noll's double to the gap in right center field set up Dailey's game-winning hit for the Cougars (13-4)

Donnell Lee had three hits and two RBI, while Kevin McLaughlin and Dailey finished with two hits and Sam Walls added an RBI double in the three-run sixth for Jefferson - one of Walls' two RBI.

Ryam Woolum's two-run single tied the game for Musselman in the top of the seventh at 6-6. Woolum, Wes Kees, Chris Price, Bobby Levie and Derek Miller had two hits.

THURMONT, Md. - Brian Baugher had three hits and struck out nine in a complete game effort, and three unearned runs on two Catoctin errors in the sixth inning gave Brunswick (5-3, 4-2) a victory in the MVAL.

Chad Wolfe's solo home run in the second inning and Chris Legore's two-run shot in the fourth provided most of Catoctin's offense. But the Cougars (4-4, 4-2) were done in in the sixth, with both errors coming with two outs.

Legore struck out nine and walked none in a complete-game loss.

UNION BRIDGE, Md. -Boonsboro (6-1,4-1) battled back from a 4-1 deficit in the top of the sixth when Nathan Kaetzel hit a three-double to left-center to tie the game before losing the MVAL contest.

Boonsboro allowed four unearned runs.

Darren Sweeney did not give up an earned run and only three hits in five innings to get the win to help Grace Academy (4-0) beat Broadfording Christian Academy. Jordan Hanft banged out three hits for Grace Academy. Ben Shade, Josh Barnhart and Ryan Myers added two hits apiece for Broadfording.

THURMONT, Md. - Jenny Cregger had three hits, three stolen bases and two RBI as Catoctin scored six runs in the first inning to remain undefeated in an MVAL contest.

Cameran Jensen and Heidi Stull had two hits and Jess Valentine added a two-run double, while Shawna Wilkes struck out 11 and allowed one hit in four innings to earn the win for the Cougars ((6-0, 6-0).

Kate Prinkey had two hits for Brunswick.

SMITHSBURG - Sean Hunt came through with six goals and four assists, while Kyle Shellenberg added five goals and one assist to help Smithsburg (4-1) beat Brunswick.

Mike Dietrich collected two goals and one assist, while Brent Barnes added one goal and three assists for Smithsburg. Danny Faulders got one goal and two assists, while Kody Snow had one goal and one assist for Smithsburg. Smithsburg goalkeeper Nelson Velez made 12 saves.

SMITHSBURG - Sara Sanders, Becky Hoffman, Samantha Keller and Kelly Verdier had two goals each for the Leopards (3-3). Lauren Layman made six saves for the win.

Smithsburg 7, Mercersburg 5

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Laura Best came through with four goals to enable Smithsburg (4-3) to edge Mercersburg Academy. Jennifer Gunther, Samantha Keller and Jordan Williams added one goal apiece for Smithsburg. Lauren Dietrich and Brittany Sweitzer added one assist each for Smithsburg.

Anjulie Canclif had two goals for Mercersburg Academy.
