Violet P. Myers


Violet Pearl Myers, 72, of 20351 Leitersburg Pike, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 10, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 29, 1929, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late David Hudgell and Daisy Bell Johnson Morningstar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Arthur Myers Sr., in 2000.

She and her husband owned the Leitersburg Hotel until 1982.

She was a Protestant.

She is survived by two sons, Richard A. Myers Jr. and Dennis E. Myers, both of Hagerstown; four sisters, Mamie B. Robison of Mongolia, Pa., Betty J. Crawford of Chester, Va., Barbara A. Mills of Hagerstown and Katherine Demory of Leetown, W.Va.; one brother, Robert L. Morningstar of Hagerstown; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Connie Short and Elsie Mahone; and two brothers, John D. Morningstar and Donald G. Morningstar.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard G. Hembrock will officiate. Burial will be in Leitersburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Laura G. Stevens


McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Laura Grace Stevens, 96, of the Long Term Care Unit of Fulton County Medical Center, and formerly of North Third Street, McConnellsburg, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at the medical center.

Born Nov. 20, 1905, in Taylor Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Grace Barnett Knepper.

Her husband, Leonard Chester Stevens, died in 1978. They were married Aug. 30, 1924.

She worked as a U.S. Postal Service clerk for 25 years at Hustontown Post Office.

She was a member of McConnellsburg United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Grace Barton of McConnellsburg and Helen Rice of Chambersburg; one sister, Beatrice Walker of Harrisonville, Pa.; two brothers, Norman Knepper of Hustontown, Pa., and Wilmer Knepper of Chambersburg, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Charles W. Stevens; one sister, Mae Berkstresser; and three brothers, Howard, Erman and Paul Knepper.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall, Pa. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Center Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, which will open at 2 p.m. A viewing also will be held at the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Robert N. Cox


Robert Nelson Cox, 77, of 112 Southern Oak Drive in Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Somerford Assisted Living in Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 29, 1924, in Elk City, Okla., he was the son of the late Henry A. Cox and Lessie Jeff Cox Sclaf.

He retired from Potomac Edison in 1987.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.

He also was a member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211.

He is survived by his wife, Dorcas Creek Cox; one daughter, Beverly Cox of Hampton, Va.; one son, Robert N. Cox Jr. of Woodland Park, Colo.; one sister, Josephine Simcich of Ashford, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leon Cox, Troy Cox and A.V. Cox.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Betty Dunlop will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church or to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders, 5 Public Square, Suite 307, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Linda A. Wood


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Linda Ann Wood, 49, of 530 Brunswick St., died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 9, 1953, in Greenville, S.C., she was the daughter of Gisela Heinz Hubble of Silver Spring, Md., and the late Marian W. Hubble.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter D. Wood.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Petersville, Md.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Catherine A. Wood and Megan J. Wood, both at home; and one brother, Gary Hubble of Washington, D.C.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick. Pastor Michael Waterson will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 9 a.m.

John L. Creamer


SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - John L. Creamer, 76, of Shepherdstown, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born April 28, 1925, in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late Wesley and Ola Creamer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bess Creamer, in 1993.
