June E. Thomas


June Elizabeth Thomas, 85, of 11236 Marbern Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at her home.

Born Dec. 17, 1916, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Blanche Edna Miller Crawford.

She was employed by Hagerstown Rubber Co. for 25 years.

She was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God, Halfway.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth W. Thomas Sr.; one stepson, Kenneth W. Thomas Jr. of Hagerstown; one sister, Betty M. Kendle of Hagerstown; one brother, Glen R. Crawford of Hagerstown; one stepgrandson; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Grimes; three brothers, John W. Crawford, Fred J. Crawford and Irvin M. Crawford; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Virginia Avenue Church of God, Hagerstown. The Rev. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport, which will be open after 9 a.m.

Reed A. Brown


FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - Reed A. Brown, 70, of Great Cove Road, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Nov. 16, 1931, in Dublin Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward and Nellie Brown Brown.

He retired as a truck driver from PPG Corp. in 1985, and operated an excavating business for 10 years.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of Cromwell Lodge 572, Free and Accepted Masons, Orbisonia, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Leidy Brown, whom he married Sept. 12, 1950; three daughters, Darlene Edmunds of Radcliff, Ky., Jackie Brown of Lewistown, Pa., and Dian Bishop of Mercersburg, Pa.; one son, Steven Brown of Burnt Cabins, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. The Revs. Belvy White and Ted Hale will officiate. Burial will be in Clear Ridge Cemetery, RD, Hustontown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 2 p.m.; and Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Estaline S. Wilson


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Estaline S. Pittman Wilson, 96, of Menno Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of Mercersburg, and Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, April 8, 2002, at the home.

Born Sept. 9, 1905, in Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Dessie Forner Pittman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvie J. Wilson, in 1976.

She attended Mercersburg Public Schools.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mercersburg and Kings Daughter Sunday School Class. She attended Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Wagner and Jane Miller, both of Greencastle; one sister, Hazel Quigley of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Donald W. Wilson; three sisters, Ruth Clevenger, Netha Ocker and Margaret Ditto; four brothers, Fred Pittman, Glenn Pittman, Merle Pittman and Varden Pittman; and one great-grandson.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. Michael Brendle will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Margaret C. Grove


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret C. Grove, 73, of Penn Hall Nursing Complex, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Penn Hall.

Born June 1, 1928, in Nesquehoning, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John C. Corby Sr. and Stella Adams Corby.

She was a 1950 graduate of Wilson College in Chambersburg, with a major in music.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Chambersburg, and sang in the choir.

She was a member of Women's Evangelical Lutheran Church Association.

She is survived by her husband, Davison G. Grove, whom she married Aug. 12, 1950; three children, Janet L. Grove of Oakland, Calif., Alan J. Grove of Chambersburg, Pa., and Susan G. Pfaff of Finksburg, Md.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth C. Berger; and one brother, John C. Corby Jr.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. The Rev. Steven D. Dorsett will officiate.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Norland Cemetery.

There will be no viewing; the family will receive friends Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church.
