His wife, Margaret Louise Hildebrand, died June 3, 2000.

He was employed by the Washington County Parks Department at Doub's Woods, and was previously employed by Fairchild Corp., Victor Ditto and Charleton Brothers.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Wilson of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, Estol Singleton of Williamsport, Kimberly Donovan of Bloomington, Ind., Sharon Wood of Virginia Beach, and Samantha Wafford of Washington, Ind.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Hildebrand.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagers-town. The Rev. Roy H. Petre will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Shirley L. Sheaffer

Shirley Louise Sheaffer, 76, of 10744 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 16, 1925, in Donora, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William C. and Ethel Jackson Blair.

Her husband of 50 years, Alan D. Sheaffer, died April 22, 1994.

She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Williamsport, where she was active in the Women's Council of the Church Group.

She was a Hagerstown Community College volunteer coordinator for the ARCC.

She is survived by one son, William P. Sheaffer of New Fairfield, Conn.; one daughter, Barbara J. Smith of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Williamsport. The Rev. Mark A. Sandell will officiate. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap (Pa.) National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, North Potomac Street, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 10814 Donelson Drive, Williamsport, MD 21795.

Maurice L. Reed Jr.

IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Maurice L. "Jack" Reed Jr., 69, of Ijamsville, died Sunday, April 7, 2002.

Born March 29, 1933, in Thurmont, Md., he was the son of the late Maurice L. Reed Sr. and Ethel L. Potts Reed.

He retired in 1992 as a police officer with the Maryland State Police. He was assigned to the Maryland School for the Deaf.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

In the 1950s, he was one of the first members of the Special Uniformed Deputies Association of Frederick County. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Disabled Police. He had been a member of Edwin C. Creeger Post 168, Thurmont.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kathy Reed; four daughters, Sheila Anne Gann of Hagerstown, Jacquline Reed of Pennsylvania, Sheila Lurane Moss of Mount Airy, Md., and Cynthia Kay Halsey of Arizona; two sons, Luke W. Farley of Hagerstown, and Kevin James Reed of Annapolis; a half-brother, Leon Reed of Florida; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a cousin.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick, Md. The Revs. Betty Jones and Bobby Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ronald C. Lodico Jr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ronald Coleman Lodico Jr., 48, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at City Hospital.

Born May 1, 1953, in Bethesda, Md., he was the son of the late Ronald C. Lodico Sr. and Dorothy Hollemon Lodico.

He is survived by four sons, Nicholas R. Lodico, Joshua H. Lodico, Ronald A. Lodico and Michael Goodman; one daughter, Sharyl Goodman; one aunt; one uncle; and a friend, JoAnn Huff.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Inwood. The Rev. Tim Butler will officiate. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Rodwell E. Spielman

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Rodwell Edward Spielman, 80, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at his home.

Born July 7, 1921, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alston E. and Mary Ann Shipway Spielman.

He attended schools in Morgan County, W.Va.

He retired in 1983 after 23 years with Fairchild Aircraft. He had been a part-time farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ethel M. Hovermale Spielman; one daughter, Lisa Spielman of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three sons, Gary Spielman and Wayne Spielman, both of Berkeley Springs, and Lonnie Spielman of Hagers-town; three sisters, Lurene Porter of Cumberland, Md., Wavy Payne of Berkeley Springs, and Carrie McElhaney of Garrett County, Md.; one brother, Avery Spielman of Berkeley Springs; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel McGuire, Elma Spielman and Loretta Yost; and two brothers, Virgil Spielman and Robert Spielman.
