West end signs

April 05, 2002

One day after Hagerstown's Mayor and City Council discussed the possibility of a 7.2 percent tax increase, two signs went up in a yard in the 100 block of Bryan Place in Hagerstown expressing at least one resident's opinion of that prospect. The sign not pictured here contained a word that sparked a lot of telephone calls to Hagerstown City Police.

"We've taken dozens of calls from parents of young children complaining about the language," said Lt. Jack Hall.

Because of the complaints, Hall decided to research Hagerstown's city code and said he could find nothing that would prohibit the wording on that sign.
