Warrants issued for suspect in Thursday incident in Hagerstown

Armed robbery warrants have been issued for a suspect in a Thursday afternoon incident where a man was assaulted at gunpoint at North and Jonathan streets, Hagerstown City Police said.

Robbie Larry Turney, 23, of Hagerstown, also was being sought on charges of robbery, first- and second-degree assault, misdemeanor theft, reckless endangerment and handgun violations, police said.

The victim, a man in his 70s, told police he was walking toward a neighborhood store at the intersection at 3:20 p.m. when he heard someone call out and he turned to see an acquaintance getting out of a car.

The person in the car allegedly pulled out a handgun and hit the victim, taking his wallet and cash, Lt. Margaret Kline said.


Turney is described as a black man, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 190 pounds. He goes by the street name "Cleve."

Fire marshal's office says fire may have been set deliberately

A March 3 house fire at first thought to have been electrical in nature may have been deliberately set, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office said Thursday.

The case of the $100,000 fire at 14658 St. Paul Road near Clear Spring a month ago has been reopened due to additional information from witnesses and a further examination of the electrical components of the house.

More interviews with other witnesses and residents of St. Paul Road are under way, with Maryland State Police assisting the fire marshals.

The fire started at 5:30 a.m. Owner Dianna Lynn Blair said she was awakened by a popping sound and saw fire near the front picture window of the one-story rancher.

Virginia woman is charged with robbing Dollar General Store

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Leesburg, Va., woman has been charged in a robbery that occurred at a Dollar General Store in the Somerset Plaza last September, court records said.

Christine Lynn Faulkner Nuckols, 38, of 12844 James Monroe Highway, was charged Thursday with armed robbery, according to Jefferson County Magistrate Court records.

West Virginia State Police say a woman entered the Dollar General Store last Sept. 1, pointed a firearm at a clerk and demanded money from the employee, court records said.

The woman fled the store with $949 and $9.60 worth of merchandise, court records said.

Nuckols was being held in the Eastern Regional Jail Thursday night on $30,000 bond, jail officials said.

A conviction on an armed robbery charge carries a possible prison sentence of not less than 10 years.

Hand and power tools stolen from Mount Aetna Road garage

Hand and power tools were stolen over the weekend from a garage at 1101 Mount Aetna Road, Washington County Sheriff's deputies said.

The victim told Deputy 1st Class C.S. Howard that the crime occurred between 9 a.m. on March 30 and 10 a.m. on April 1.

Truck driver issued DUI citation after his rig strikes Volkswagen

FREDERICK, Md. - The driver of a 21/2-ton flatbed truck was issued a driving under the influence of alcohol citation Thursday afternoon after his rig slid sideways on Interstate 270 and struck a Volkswagen, Maryland State Police said.

Jason Fox, 25, of Waterside Court, Frederick, also was charged with failure to stop following an accident. Police alleged he drove on after striking the car and then a guard rail on the right shoulder.

A deputy saw the accident and stopped the truck a short distance away, police said.

Additional charges included failing to control speed and failing to display his license.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Joyce Gorman, 64, of Rockville, Md., was treated for minor injuries at Frederick Memorial Hospital, police said.

Hagerstown police seek man in connection with armed robbery

Hagerstown City Police have issued an arrest warrant in connection with a March 7 armed robbery in a stairwell at 58 E. Antietam St.

Police are seeking Jason Stalbyn Bell, also known as Nova, in connection with the warrant.

Bell, 19, is described as a black man, with black hair and brown eyes. His last known address was 24 Madison Ave.

He is charged in the warrant with armed robbery, robbery, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, theft, and two handgun offenses.

Police said Bell's whereabouts was unknown and they asked for help from the community in locating him.

Woman faces indecent exposure charge after dancing topless

FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick woman was charged with indecent exposure after dancing topless outside a business Thursday morning, Frederick City Police said.

Meredith Renee Smith, 26, of 7827 Gambrill Park Road, was charged with indecent exposure.

Police said an officer was patrolling the area of Lucas McCaine's when he noticed a loud group of people leaving the bar at 1:40 a.m.

While walking through the parking lot, Smith allegedly took off her shirt and began dancing, police said.

Bond information was unavailable.
