GREENCASTLE, Pa. - In cold weather, most people find it better to be moving around to stay warm. Wednesday afternoon, though, the Greencastle-Antrim baseball team did most of its damage by standing still.

The No. 5 Blue Devils found a way to stay patient on a day it didn't seem logical, using 12 walks and one big hit in the first four innings to start a 14-5 victory over archrival James Buchanan in the Mid Penn Colonial.

"The pitching was real inconsistent, and you had to guess on what they were throwing," said Greencastle first baseman Dave Izer, whose three-run homer broke the game open in the third inning. "You really had to watch the ball."

Tied 1-1 after 2 1/2 innings, Greencastle (4-0, 3-0) took control by watching errant pitches fly by them in the third and fourth. Skylar Group walked and Ryan Hoffman was hit by a pitch.

It set the table for Izer, who hit a wind-blown fly into the basketball court over the left-field fence at King Playground for a 4-0 lead.

"You could just see everybody relax then," Greencastle coach Chris Sellers said. "We left 12 guys on yesterday (against Bermudian), but that took a lot of pressure off a lot of people today."

The Devils got a fourth run on three walks, and a double steal, when the Rockets (0-4, 0-3) tried to short-throw behind the mound, but the ball ended up in center field.

In the fourth, four more walks and a two-run double by Nathaniel Kopp turned it into a 9-1 game.

"That's been the nemesis all season so far," JB coach Corey Dayley said. "It's a good effort, but the consistency is not there yet."

JB strung together some hits for three runs in the fifth and used two errors for a run in the sixth, but Greencastle finally used its bats to score five runs in the sixth. The Devils got five hits in the frame - they only finished with nine - including a two-run double off the fence from Group.

Izer and Eric Ile both finished with two hits, as the Devils took 14 walks for the game. For JB, Ryan Leasure had two hits.
