April 03, 2002|BY ANDREW SCHOTZ

SMITHSBURG - Michael Rohrer and Mildred "Mickey" Myers are running against each other for mayor in the May 14 election.

James LaFemina and Ralph Regan are the only two candidates for two open seats on the Town Council.

No one else filed to run for mayor or council before the Monday evening deadline.

Rohrer, a town councilman, and Myers, who has served as both mayor and town councilwoman, will vie to replace Mayor Tommy Bowers, who is not seeking re-election.

Rohrer's council term expires this year.

The other open council seat is held by Charlie Slick, who is not running for re-election.

The terms for mayor and council are four years. The salaries are $2,000 a year for mayor and $1,000 for council member.
