Site plan approved for 150-unit development

The Washington County Planning Commission Monday approved a site plan for a 150-unit residential development on the north side of Poffenberger Road, south of Hagerstown.

The development includes 40 single-family homes on 14 acres and 110 townhomes on 28 acres, according to the site plan.

The property is at Poffenberger and the CSX railroad right-of-way, east of Sharpsburg Pike.

A 4-foot fence will be erected between the development and the railroad, said Senior Planner Lisa Pietro.

Hopewell Sheet Metal building plans OK'd

The Washington County Planning Commission Monday approved a site plan for Hopewell Sheet Metal Manufacturing Co. to build a new 12,000-square-foot warehouse.

The addition would be on 3.4 acres across Hopewell Road from the business at 11361 Hopewell Road, Senior Planner Timothy Lung said.

Company President David Horn said the planned warehouse is needed to place products ready to be shipped because two pieces of new, large equipment are taking up space in the company's existing 9,000-square-foot warehouse.

Grading can begin as early as this week and construction will take a few months, he said.

No new employees will be hired because of the additional warehouse, Horn said.

He made his comments prior to the meeting.

The site plan also gives permission for the company to build a second 12,000-square-foot warehouse and a 9,000-square-foot warehouse under phase II, and a 3,750-square-foot office building, which is phase III.

That work would not occur for years, if ever, Horn said.

There would be six to eight new employees if the office building is built, Lung said.

The company fabricates custom sheet metal from copper aluminum, cold rolled steel, galvanized steel and stainless steel. It also fabricates residential and commercial ductwork systems.

Church of Christ gets nod for auditorium addition

The Washington County Planning Commission approved a site plan for Hagerstown Church of Christ to construct a 6,000-square-foot addition.

The addition will be used for an auditorium and a lobby area, Senior Planner Lisa Pietro said.

The property is at 19644 Leitersburg Pike.
