Area Roundup - Pittsnogle makes All-State

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - Martinsburg's Kevin Pittsnogle was selected to the West Virginia Class AAA All-State team Saturday by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.

Pittsnogle, a 6-10 senior center, averaged 21 points per game in leading the Bulldogs back to the state tournament. Martinsburg did not lose a regular season game to any school in West Virginia.

Joining Pittsnogle are Cabell Midland senior Mark Patton, South Charleston's Cedric Hornbuckle, Princeton's Daniel Reed, Riverside's Karl Booker and Parkersburg South's Matt Shamblin.


Frederick County Tournament

Walkersville 13, Middletown 6: At Middletown, Md., Josh Anderson hit a solo homer in the third while Mike Mullinix knocked in five with two hits and a sacrifice fly as Walkersville (2-0) advanced to the finals of the Frederick County Tournament.


Alex Dube also had two RBI for Walkersville while Trey Staub had two hits for Middletown.

TJ 13, Urbana 2: Adam Hanselman, TJ's second batter of the game, hit a two-run homer as the Patriots never trailed and advanced to the Frederick County Tournament title game.

Seven TJ players had two hits as the Patriots (2-1) needed only five innings to get into Monday's championship at 3 p.m. against homestanding Walkersville. Hanselman, Garrett Hanselman, Taylor Covey, Joey Hayes, Kenny Hammond, Will Delawter and Danny Ceneviva all had two hits; Garrett Hanselman had three RBI.

Kevin Rinehart and Justin Brown combined on a three-hitter.

Brunswick 7, Catoctin 5: At Frederick, Md., Preston Tarleton hit a two-run double to highlight a four-run second inning to lift Brunswick to a victory over Catoctin in the consolation bracket of the Neil Keller/Frederick County tournament.

Wayne Toms and Jesse Ault added run-scoring hits in the rally that gave the Railroaders (2-1) a 6-2 lead. Toms went 3-for-4 with two RBI and four stolen bases while Ault went 2-for-3. Winning pitcher Tom Blumenauer added two hits.

Ryan Nesbitt was 2-for-3, including a double, and Danny Novak added two hits for Catoctin (1-3).

Williamsport 13, Hancock 5: Ben Jordan and Matt Allen combined on a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts to lead Williamsport over Hancock.

Mike Griffee and Steve Miles each went 3-for-4 for Williamsport, with Miles rapping three doubles and Griffee two. Allen also had a pair of doubles for the Wildcats.

Josh Ruppenthal hit a two-run homer for the Panthers.

Williamsport 8, Northern Garrett 6: Josh Bowers went the distance, scattering four hits and striking out nine for the Wildcats (3-1).

Allen, Chris Johnson and Leo Schill each had two hits and Schill drove in two runs for Williamsport.

Hancock 9, Northern Garrett 5: Chris Robair threw a three-hitter, walking only one and striking out three as Hancock got its first win of the season.

Brandon Fling went 3-for-4 with three RBI, Ruppenthal and Chris Wills each had two hits and Tyler Younker drove in two runs for the Panthers (1-2).

Boonsboro 8, Westminster 7: Keith Kellinger drove in the winning run on a ground-rule double in the bottom of the seventh to lift Boonsboro over Westminster.

Cody Hanes reached on a single, moved to second on a Mike Fravel fielder's choice and scored on Kellinger's shot to right field.

Nathan Himes, Cody Hanes and Marty Kaetzel each had two hits for the Warriors. Kaetzel also drove in two runs.

Keith Overdorff allowed just four hits in 4 1/3 innings after relieving Nathan Kaetzel in the first inning. Craig Henson struck out four of the six hitters he faced to get the win for Boonsboro.

Eddie Ashwell and Mike Sheffel homered for Westminster.

Boonsboro 12, North Hagerstown 3: Kellinger hit a three-run home run to highlight a five-run second inning as the Warriors beat North for the second time in four days.

Will Strahl had a two-run single and Dustin Werst had an RBI single for Boonsboro (4-0). Josh Mitchell, Jay Love and Kellinger combined to hold the Hubs to four hits.

Kyle Robinson had a two-run single for North.
