Catherine S. Verdier


MONT ALTO, Pa. - Catherine Smetzer Verdier, 85, of 4 Spruce St., died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.

Born July 28, 1916, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob C. and Elsie H. Baker Smetzer.

Her husband, Alexander E. Verdier, died April 14, 1959. They were married Nov. 25, 1939.

She attended schools in Quincy, Pa.

She was employed by the Carroll Shoe Factory in Mont Alto.; and worked as a seamstress for Connie's Sportswear in Waynesboro, retiring in 1988.

She attended Greenwood Assembly of God Church in Fayetteville, Pa.

She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Rhone and Bertha Mae Shaffer, both of Mont Alto, and Wanda Kay Ditch of Downingtown, Pa.; one son, Franklin Cooper of Mont Alto; one sister, Helen Wadel of Waynesboro; two brothers, Ralph Smetzer and Paul Smetzer, both of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Verdier; three sisters, Alice Smetzer, Blanche Smetzer and Viola Strausner; and one brother, George Smetzer.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Douglas W. Baldwin will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mont Alto.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Phyllis L. Bowser


Phyllis L. Lushbaugh Bowser, 77, of 1072 Bramly Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at her home.

Born March 7, 1925, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Florence M. Besecker Lushbaugh.

She was a 1943 graduate of Hagerstown High School; and completed nursing school at Washington County Hospital, becoming a registered nurse in 1946.

She was a private duty nurse, retiring from Dr. Samuel Waddell's practice after 18 years.

She was a member of Nurse's Alumni Association of Washington County Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon K. "Bud" Bowser, whom she married April 29, 1971; one daughter, Jill L. Miller of Livingston, Mont.; one son, Harvey M. Miller of Livingston; one sister, Sandra J. Shawyer of Hagerstown; and two granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy G. Snyder; and two brothers, William E. Lushbaugh and Terry L. Lushbaugh.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. John C. Hoffman will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Potomac Street, Hagerstown.




Teresa L. Conrad


Teresa Lynn Gearhart Conrad, 39, of 20006 Jefferson Blvd., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 24, 1962, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Mitchell B. and Beverly Mae Barnhart Gearhart of Hagerstown.

She was a 1980 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

She was employed by Home Depot, as a department head, for seven years.

She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, James F. Conrad; one daughter, Tiffany Star Miller, at home; one son, Garrett Miller, at home; one stepson, Justin Conrad, at home; one sister, Kristin Hose of Hagerstown; two brothers, Michael Brose Gearhart of South Riding, Va. and Jeffrey Allen Gearhart of Hagerstown; and maternal grandparents, Glenn and Mary Barnhart of Hagerstown.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward L. Poling will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth H. Fuller


LEETOWN, W.Va. - Elizabeth Helen "Betty" Fuller, 76, of Leetown, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at her home.

Born Aug. 13, 1925, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Helen E. Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Reginald Landon, in 1965; and by her second husband, Richard Edmund Fuller, in 2001.

She was a graduate of Indianapolis High School.

She had been employed as a bookkeeper by Dart Drug Store in Oxen Hill, Md.

She was a Protestant.

She was a former member of Women of the Moose Chapter 1028 of Charles Town, W.Va.

She is survived by one daughter, Kay L. Landon of Leetown; two sons, Bruce Landon of Paul Smiths, N.Y. and Richard Landon of Sterling, Va.; one adopted daughter, Betty Reeley of Leetown; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and eight brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Pastor Richard E. Neal will officiate.

Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
