HCC sweeps

COCO BEACH, Fla. - Hagerstown Community College defeated Finger Lakes 8-3 and Northampton, 11-5.

Jeff Kirkpatrick (2-0) struck out nine and allowed four hits in picking up the win in Game 1. Justin Warner paced the offense with three hits and four RBI and Brent Kimball had two hits and two RBI for HCC (5-5).

Pat Tuthill (1-1) picked up the win in Game 2. Zach Glover had three hits and two RBI, Brent Hoover and Warner had two hits and two RBI apiece and Nick Wenger had two hits for HCC.

Shepherd 8, Kutztown 7

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Zac Couturiaux's single in the bottom of the 10th scored Preston Miller to lift Shepherd over Kutztown.


Miller, who hit a two-run homer in the second inning, had two hits, Lucas Taylor had three hits, and Brian Powell, Mike Spry, who also had a two-run homer, and Couturiaux, who had a solo homer, had two hits apiece for Shepherd (11-4-1).

ATHENS, W.Va. - Freshman Becky Porter (4-0) tossed a five hitter in Game 2 as Shepherd earned a split with Concord in WVIAC action.

Amanda Fleming had three hits and scored twice while Mara Kafton, Shea Sirbaugh and Kim Virts each had two hits. Virts also had three RBI while Jessica Sturgill and Chrissy Ashley each added two RBI for Shepherd (7-6, 5-5).

Starlite Inn/Extreme Sounds takes 4th

GLEN BURNIE, Md. - Grey Petty and Denny Bryan each hit over .700 and Frank Robinson, Dwayne Rowland and Jason Draper hit over .600 as Starlite Inn/Extreme Sounds finished fourth in the USSSA "E" DWS Early Bird qualifier. The team qualifies for the USSSA nationals in Ocean City, Md., in September.
