DNR warns public against using river

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is asking the public not to use the Upper Potomac River for boating and other recreational activities.

Because of recent precipitation, river levels are hazardous from Hancock to Little Falls, the department said Saturday.

Two charged with drug possession in Frederick

FREDERICK. Md. - The Frederick Police Department's drug enforcement unit arrested two people Friday.

Susan Lynn Glass, 32, of Keysville Road, Keymar, Md., and Jay Anthony Topper, 28, of Four Points Road, Rocky Ridge, Md., were charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The drug enforcement unit was on a surveillance operation in the area of West 7th Street and Motter Avenue, police said.


439 vehicles stopped at sobriety checkpoint

Maryland State Police and the Washington County Sheriff's Department stopped 439 motor vehicles at a sobriety checkpoint Friday.

Three people were charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

One person was given a ticket for underage possession of alcohol and one person was arrested on a warrant, police said.

The checkpoint was set up at U.S. 40 and Crest View Road in Hagerstown.
