Dirk Webb allowed three hits and no runs in five innings, striking out six as Hedgesville (1-0) defeated St. Maria Goretti 4-2 in both teams' season opener Thursday.

Nick Adenhart struck out 15 in six innings in a losing effort for St. Maria Goretti (0-1). He allowed three hits, four walks and four earned runs. Josh Carter had an RBI.

Amy Miller (1-0) earned the win for the Leopards in their opener, striking out three and walking one in three innings. Miller also had two singles and a double, while Jenelle Stouffer had two hits, including a triple, and Alyssa Reed added three hits.

Mallory Tsetsilas hit a home run and a double for South (0-1).
