Musselman wins opener-Monday roundup

INWOOD, W.Va. - Jeremy Mason went 4-for-4 with two RBI, Ryan Woolum had two hits and two RBI, Chris Price had two hits and Wes Kees had two RBI as Musselman opened its season Monday with an 12-4 win over East Hardy.

Brandon Combs struck out six and allowed one earned run in four innings while picking up the win.

Berkeley Springs 1-8, Sherando 3-2

WINCHESTER, Va. - Senior Brittany Sirbaugh threw two five-inning, complete games as Berkeley Springs split its season-opening doubleheader. Sirbaugh allowed total of four runs and seven hits, while fanning three and walking one in the games.

Julie Scherpf paced the offense with a two-run double in the second game.

Suns' game tickets to go on sale

Individual tickets for 2002 Hagerstown Suns season go on sale Wednesday. Tickets are $7 for VIP seating, which includes waiter and waitress service. General admission is $5 and children 12 and under, as well as senior citizens, may purchase general admission seating for $3.

Shepherd sweeps awards

PRINCETON, W.Va. - Shepherd junior outfielder Mike Spry is the West Virginia Conference player of the week after driving in 11 runs in six games last week.

Teammate J.R. Fitzwater gave the Rams a sweep of weekly conference honors by grabbing the pitcher of the week award after picking up a pair of wins.

Spry had 10 hits in 22 at-bats (.454) last week as Shepherd went 4-2 to improve to 8-2-1. He hit two home runs and scored six runs.

Fitzwater only allowed three runs in 13 innings. He began the week with a Tuesday four-hit complete game win over Mount Olive. He fanned eight and only allowed one run as Shepherd won for the first one against MOC. The Hedgesville, W.Va. junior shut down SUNY-Oswego on Saturday by giving up one hit, a pair of walks, and two runs during a six-inning stint of an 8-4 Ram win.


Washington County Church League Playoffs

Dargan 62, Bethel 40: Brian Shoemaker had 21 points and Scott Obitts had 13 points for Dargan. Jack McCarthy had 12 points for Bethel.

West End Chapel 68, Living Water 50: J.R. Bowers had 16 points and Ashley Shook had 15 points for West End. Dave Forston had 20 points for Living Water.

Nazarene 55, Christ Lutheran 46: Tim Troxell had 18 points and Darryl Brown had 12 for Nazarene. Steve Wilson had 22 points for Christ Lutheran.

St. James 70, Tri-State 43: Alan Moore had 14 points while Steve Collins and Eric Taylor had 10 points for St. James. Howard Metger had 14 points for Tri-State.
