Max L.Stenger


McConnellsburg, Pa. - Max Lewis Stenger, 84, of 215 N. Third St., died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.

Born Jan. 3, 1918, in Jugtown, Pa., he was the son of the late Claude and Florence Crouse Stenger.

He had been a self-employed plumber and was the mayor of McConnellsburg for 43 years and the superintendent of the McConnellsburg Boro Municipal Authority for 43 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in McConnellsburg where he had been a Sunday School teacher.

He was a member and former chief of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co., a member and former commander of American Legion Post 561 of McConnellsburg and a member of the U.S. Navy Cruiser Sailors Association USS Chicago, I.O.O.F. Lodge, the National Republican Committee, the Volunteer Firemans Association, the Cumberland Valley Firemans Association, the Pennsylvania State Mayors Association and the Franklin-Fulton Firemans Association.

He was Fireman of the Year in 1965.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Weller Stenger; a daughter, Faye E. Strait of Chambersburg, Pa.; four sons, Fred L. Stenger of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Max E. Stenger, James H. Stenger and Michael L. Stenger, all of McConnellsburg; one sister, Esther B. Yeger of Chambersburg; two brothers, George Stenger and Merle Stenger, both of McConnellsburg; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold R. Stenger.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in McConnellsburg. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, with graveside services by Fulton County Honor Guard and McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg; and Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church. The funeral home will open Monday at 2 p.m.

Howard A. Cline


Howard Arthur Cline, 72, of Ravenwood Lutheran Village and formerly of Main Avenue, Hagerstown, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 28, 1929, in Mifflin Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Austin S. and Clara A. Cochran Cline.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Lois L. Myers Cline, in 1994.

He was employed by Horst Milk Transfer in Hagerstown, George Transfer and Rude Trucking, both in Falling Waters, W.Va.

He was a member of Loyal Order Moose 214 of Jersey Shore, Pa., Owls Club Inc. of Hagerstown, the former Hagerstown Moose of Hagerstown, Fraternal Order of Eagles 1249 of Jersey Shore, American Legion Post 36 of Jersey Shore and VFW of Jersey Shore.

He is survived by six daughters, Sara J. Hutton and Susan M. Clem, both of Falling Waters, Clara M. Schrock of State Line, Pa., Nan L. Hutton of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Lois A. Shaffer and Darlene K. Griffith, both of Hagerstown; four sons, Delroy A. Cline of Clear Spring, Leo S. Cline of Marlowe, W.Va., Charles L. Cline of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Kenneth E. Cline of Hagerstown; a sister, Esther M. Feigles of Williamsport; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Daniel L. Shifflet Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Laura L. Angeles


Laura Lynne McGowan Angeles, 40, of 20705 Oriole Circle, Hagerstown, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 29, 1961, in Kirksville, Mo., she was the daughter of Brinson Lomax McGowan II and Diane Carol Bruso McGowan of Marianna, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodolfo Nuqui Angeles Jr., in 1996.

She graduated from Keswick High School in St. Petersburg, Fla., and attended Eurocentre in Lausanne, Switzerland, Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., and the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.

She taught English as a second language at the University of Hawaii. She taught French at the Punahou Academy also in Hawaii. She recently assisted in the operating room of the Washington County Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by three daughters, Samantha C. Mahoney, Leilani E. Angeles and Alexia A. Angeles, all of Hagerstown; a son, Richmond L. Angeles of Hagerstown; and two brothers, David F. McGowan of Marianna, Fla., and B. Lomax McGowan of Travelers Rest, S.C.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Daris W. Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
