Jefferson scores another 10-run rule win-Saturday roundup

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Sam Walls hit a three-run homer in the first inning and had two hits, four RBI and three runs scored as Jefferson defeated Mohannon.

Junior Terry Mumaw made his first varsity start and allowed only one run four hits, two walks and struck out four in four innings. Mumaw gave up three singles to open the game.

Donell Lee went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI and Steve Kozak had two hits and three RBI for Jefferson (2-0).

HCC earns fifth seed

LA PLATA, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College softball team recovered from a pounding in its first game to win its second and third Saturday to earn the fifth seed in the College of Southern Maryland Tournament today.

The Hawks lost to Louisburg (N.C.) 17-0 before beating Penn State-Fayette 6-3 and Prince George's, 4-3.

Ashley Gray, Cory Reed, Adriane Mallow and Robin Curley all had two hits in the second game. Reed, Mallow and Becky Pulieri all had two hits in the third game.

Gish takes 10th in 8K

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Jason Gish was 10th overall, but the first American to cross the finish line, Saturday in the 30th annual Shamrock Sports Fest as one of a three members of the Cumberland Valley Athletic Club to finish highly.

Gish finished the 8K race in 25:40 in the event which drew more than 6,000 runners for the multirace event. Eric Benjamin, a recent UMBC grad, finished 13th overall and as the fourth American in the raice in 25:57.

Maria Spinnler made her debut in the women's Masters division by finishing fourth in 29:41 in the 8K run.

Former HCC track and cross country coach Rick Erdmann, 60, won the 60-and-over Masters division in 33:19.
