Jefferson wins opener-Friday roundup

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Jefferson opened its season Friday with an easy 17-0 win over Moshannon Valley, Pa.

Sam Walls struck out six and walked two while allowing no hits in three innings to record the victory. Donell Lee paced the offense with two hits and three RBI, including a two-run double.

Steve Kozak had three RBI and Kevin McLaughlin had two hits and two RBI for Jefferson, which will play Moshannon this morning at 11.

Fleming, Kitchen (2), Godin (3), Evans (3), Hopkins (4) and Williams; Walls, Simons (4), Osborn (5) and Noll, Davis (5). WP-Walls (1-0). LP-Fleming.

City sweeps County

FREDERICK, Md. - The city teams swept the 23rd Annual Frederick County Coaches Association City-County Classic at Thomas Johnson High School on Friday.

The City stars won the girls game for the sixth straight year, 68-51. Kristal Hood (Frederick) had 14 points, while Ann Orelli (Urbana) and Jen Andrews (Frederick) each had 11. Monica Cherry had 16 points for the County team.

Orelli won the 3-point contest, making 7 of 10. Kelly Schultz (Walkersville) went 10-for-10 to win the free throw contest.

The City boys won their 11th straight over the County, 81-78. Aaron White (St. John's at Prospect Hall), who won the slam dunk contest, led all scorers with 21 points. Brian Lewis (Frederick) had 16 points, Justin Battle (SJPH) had 14 and D.D. Gibbs (Thomas Johnson) had 12 for the City.

Darrin Stull (Walkersville) had 15 points to lead the County team. Nathan Long (Catoctin) had 11 points and Brooks Moser (Middletown) had 10. Mark Angleberger (Walkersville) won the 3-point contest, going 6-for-10.

Shepherd 18, SUNY Oswego 10


SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd took a 6-0 lead in the second inning with four hits and a three-run home run by Brian Powell, who went 3-for-6.

Mike Spry hit two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, and went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Preston Miller picked up his first win of the year for the Rams.

Tri-State 49, Gateway 36: Howard Metger had 14 points and Chuck Smith had 13 points for Tri-State. Victor Folwkes had 10 for Gateway.

Nazarene 60, Calvary Temple 48: Shawn Barkley and Tim Troxell had 14 points apiece for Nazarene. Casey Bakner had 15 points for Calvary Temple.

Living Waters 69, Williamsport Assembley 59: Dave Forston had 30 points and John Buchanan had 16 points for Living Waters. Josh Martin had 17 points for Williamsport Assembley.

Bethel 45, Rehoboth 44: Dan Nason had 18 points and John Butler had 11 points for Bethel. Wes Christ had 22 points for Rehoboth.
