Little League tryouts

The following are dates and times for Maryland District 1 Little League registration and tryouts:

American (301-791-2099) - Registration: Saturday, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Tryouts: Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m.; Monday, 5 p.m. (9-10-year-olds only); Tuesday, 5 p.m. (11-12-year-olds only); Wednesday, rain date.

Clear Spring - Registration: Saturday, noon-4 p.m. Tryouts: Saturday, Noon-2 p.m. (7-8-year-olds), 2-4 p.m. (9-16-year-olds); Monday, 5 p.m. (7-9 and 13-16-year-olds); Tuesday, 5 p.m. (10-12-year-olds); Wednesday (7-12-year-olds not at previous tryouts); Saturday, March 23 (5-6-year-olds and Tee Ball).

Conococheague (301-223-6706) - Registration: Saturday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tryouts: Saturday, 9-11 a.m. (9-year-olds), 11 a.m.-1 p.m. (10-year-olds), 1-3 p.m. (11-12-year-olds); Monday, 5-6:30 p.m. (9-year-olds and 13-14-year-olds); Tuesday, 5-6:30 p.m. (10-year-olds); Wednesday, 5-6:30 p.m. (11-14-year-olds).

South Mountain (301-432-2700) - Registration: Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tryouts: Saturday, 10-11 a.m. (12-year-olds), 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (13-15-year-olds), 11 a.m.-noon (11-year-olds), noon-1 p.m. (10-year-olds), 1-2 p.m. (9-year-olds), 1 p.m. (16-18-year-olds), 2-3 p.m. (8-year-olds), 3-4 p.m. (7-year-olds); Monday, 5:30 p.m. (11-12-year-olds); Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. (9-10-year-olds); Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. (7-8-year-olds).

West End (301-797-7808) - Registration: Saturday, 9-11 a.m. Tryouts: Saturday, noon (9-year-olds), 1 p.m. (10-year-olds), 2:30 p.m. (11-12-year-olds); Monday, 5 p.m. (9-year-olds); Tuesday, 5 p.m. (10-year-olds); Wednesday, 5 p.m. (11-12-year-olds).

Leagues seek umpires

Roxbury Slo-pitch tournament

There will be a USSSA Class D Slo-pitch softbal tournament in Roxbury, Pa., April 6-7. Teams are guaranteed three games in bracket play. Top two teams advance to double elimination play. Any ASA or NSA team with a sub-.500 record may participate. Entry fee is $160 plus a $20 sanctioning fee, cash only. Teams hit their own .47-core balls. Blue Chip Basketball event

Blue Chip Basketball will hold a one-day, college exposure event for high school girls Saturday at University of Maryland's Cole Field House.

Registration is on an individual basis and participants will be placed on teams that will play three games.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and games begin at 9.

Mid-Maryland camp applications available

The 27th Annual Mid-Maryland Sports Camp will be held this summer at St. Maria Goretti High School, under the direction of Goretti boys basketball coach Cokey Robertson.

The camp will be divided into one-week sessions as follows:

Girls volleyball, June 17-21; Boys basketball I, June 24-28; Boys basketball II, July 1-5; Girls basketball, July 8-12; Girls and boys soccer, July 22-26.

Goalkeeper clinic at St. James

Dan Gaspar and his clinicians from Star Goalkeeper Academy will hold a soccer goalkeeper clinic Saturday at St. James School from 1-5 p.m.

Cost is $25 and goalkeepers can register at the school the day of the clinic. Boys and girls of any age are invited to participate.

Boonsboro baseball clinic

The Boonsboro High School baseball program will host an instructional clinic Sunday from noon-4 p.m. in the Boonsboro High gymnasium.
