City Councilman undergoes heart procedure

March 15, 2002

Hagerstown City Councilman Lewis C. Metzner was awake and doing well Thursday afternoon after having two stents put in his right coronary artery earlier in the day, Fran Graves, Metzner's legal secretary, said Thursday.

If all goes well, Metzner could be back home in Hagerstown late today, Graves said.

During planned medical tests Thursday, doctors found Metzner's right coronary artery 100 percent blocked, Graves said.

The medical procedures were performed at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Md., she said.

Metzner, 49, is a lawyer who has been on the City Council since 1994.
