Laura K. Hill


BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Laura Kim Hill, 47, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Nov. 19, 1954, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Kathleen Rich O'Neill of Berkeley Springs and the late Author Dennis O'Neill.

She was a graduate of Western High School in Washington, D.C.

She worked as a sales clerk.

She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one sister, Margaret Hatcher of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and one brother, Thomas O'Neill of Gerrardstown, W.Va.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Robert S. Osborne will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Agnes N. Bowers


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Agnes N. Bowers, 82, of 8940 Larry Drive and formerly of 10278 Claylick Road, Mercersburg, Pa., died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Quincy (Pa.) United Methodist Home.

Born Jan. 21, 1920, in Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late James O. and Anna B. Robinson Bowers.

She was a supervisor for 15 years at the former Mercersburg Dress Factory. She later worked at Sagnar Sewing Co. in McConnellsburg, Pa. She was last employed by the former J. Schoeneman Co. in Chambersburg, Pa., retiring in 1982.

She was a member of First Church of God in Mercersburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol L. Martin and Michele D. Wolff, both of Greencastle; one sister, Julia A. Metcalfe of Greencastle; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Bowers, Ellis Bowers and Paul Bowers.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Church of God, Mercersburg. The Rev. Ernest E. Pletcher will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg; and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church.




Ethel E. Pomeroy


KNOXVILLE, Md. - Ethel Edwards Pomeroy, 96, of Knoxville and formerly of Loudoun Heights, Va., died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 3, 1905, in Loudoun County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John Wilbert and Martha Hackley Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Pomeroy, in 1968.

She worked as a cook at Hillsboro School in Hillsboro, Va. She also was employed by Hilltop House Hotel in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and served as a midwife for many years in the Loudoun County area.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Neersville, Va.; and Loudoun Valley Church of the Nazarene in Hillsboro.

She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Neersville Fire Co., Neersville Senior Citizens, and Women of the Moose Chapter 1028 of Charles Town, W.Va.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Leopold of Knoxville, and Frances Sperry of Thurmont, Md.; two sisters, Helen Pomeroy of Arlington, Va., and Beulah Staubs of Loudoun Heights; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Milford Pomeroy, Spencer Pomeroy and Charles Pomeroy; three sisters, Evelyn Clatterbuck, Agnes Edwards and Grace Lively; and four brothers, James Edwards, John Edwards, R. Milford Edwards and Louis Edwards.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Al Mason will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, Va.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nellie M. Widder


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Nellie M. Widder, 100, of Manorcare Health Services and formerly of 7512 Friendship Village Road, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at the nursing home.

Born June 29, 1901, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Elverta Sullivan Overcash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Raymond Widder, in 1982. They were married March 3, 1921.

She attended Falling Spring, Pa., School.

She worked at the former Interwoven Stocking, and Stanley Manufacturing Co., both in Chambersburg. Later, she worked at the former Fairchild Aircraft plant in Hagerstown and helped her family operate its grocery store in Kauffman, Pa. She also assisted her husband with his chicken business in Kauffman. During her retirement, she worked in the kitchen and prepared food for the Kauffman Ruritan Club.

She was a member of Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church near Chambersburg.

She is survived by one son, C. Robert Widder of Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Sackman and Pearl Fauson; and two brothers, Charles Overcash and Herbert Overcash.
