A Hagerstown man was charged with waving a gun at motorists and attempting to carjack a cab Thursday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Jeremy Todd Bricker, 24, of Westwood Street, was charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted armed carjacking and five counts of first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

He was being held Thursday night on $60,000 bond.

Police said a sheriff's deputy was driving west on Dual Highway when he was flagged down by four women in a 2002 Chevrolet sedan at 1:17 a.m. The women told the deputy that they saw a man with a gun enter an Antietam Cab Association vehicle, and it headed north on Cleveland Avenue.

The man had been standing in the right lane at Dual Highway and Eastern Boulevard and was waving a gun at passing motorists, including the women in the Chevrolet sedan, who called 911, police said.

After entering the cab, the man told the driver that he wanted money. The driver had a small amount of cash on him so the man told the driver that he was going to take the cab, police said.

The deputy, aided by Hagerstown City Police, caught up with the cab and took the man into custody.

The gun the man carried was found to be plastic.
