Paul R. Moser


Paul Russell "Shockey" Moser, 68, of Beverly Health Care of Hagerstown and formerly of School House Court, Boonsboro, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 12, 1933, near Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Harvey E. Moser and Nora A. Shoemaker Moser Taylor.

He retired from Kenny Brown Horse Farm near Boonsboro. He had been employed by Kayo in Hagerstown; and owned and operated The Pool Room in Boonsboro.

He was a member of Boonsboro Bible Church.

He was a member of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion of Boonsboro.

He is survived by two sisters, Betty Palmer of Boonsboro and Marie Mock of Brookfield, Conn.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mamie P. Moser; and one brother, Harvey E. Moser Jr.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Boonsboro Cemetery. Pastor Gary W. Getridge will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beverly Health Care of Hagerstown, 750 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, MD 21740.




Jane R. Phenicie


MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Jane R. Phenicie, 84, of 8134 Little Cove Road, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at her home.

Born May 12, 1917, in Sylvan, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Louie Johnson Gordon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Phenicie Sr., in 1981.

She was a homemaker; and assisted her husband with the family farm.

She was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church of Little Cove, and a former Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Semke of Camp Hill, Pa. and Laura Putt of Chambersburg; one son, Russell E. Phenicie Jr. of Little Cove, Pa.; two sisters, Marie Keefer and Vera Keefer, both of Mercersburg; one brother, Melvin Gordon of Mercersburg; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, John F. Phenicie; and two sisters, Thelma Winters and Ruby Helman.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg. The Rev. Belvy C. White will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery, Little Cove.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday at noon.

Anna M. Cowan


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Anna M. Cowan, 95, of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of 4364 Charlestown Road, Mercersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 15, 1906, in Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Nancy Rasp Atherton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel H. Cowan, in 1967.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Maple Grove Church of God in Mercersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Joan M. Custer of Mercersburg; one son, Charles H. Cowan of Fort Loudon, Pa.; one sister, Grace Guyer of Mercersburg; two brothers, Abraham Atherton of Mercersburg and Donald Atherton of Greencastle, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg. The Rev. Norman C. Hege will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Visitation will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.




Carroll L. Shewbridge


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Carroll Lamont Shewbridge, 59, of Marie Lane, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at his home.

Born Nov. 29, 1942, in Yarrowsburg, he was the son of the late George E. and Emma Deaner Shewbridge.

He was employed by Royal Vendors in Kearneysville, W.Va.

He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Gapland.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1136 of Brunswick, Md.

He is survived by three sisters, Joyce A. Bradley of Ranson, W.Va., Joan K. Shewbridge of Martinsburg and Jean K. Deener of Knoxville, Md.; four brothers, James A. Shewbridge of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Jerry A. Shewbridge of Ranson, David S. Shewbridge of Kernersville, N.C. and Marshall B. Shewbridge of Andros Island, Bahamas; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Gapland. The Rev. Wendell McClellan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Luke's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Brownsville.

The family will receive friends today and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

HILLSBORO, Va. - Edith Virginia Payne, 73, of Hillsboro, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at her home.
