Couple nearly locked in park

Two more people were almost locked inside Hagerstown's Fairgrounds Park recently, City Councilwoman Carol N. Moller said Tuesday.

Last week, Councilman Kristin B. Aleshire complained that he had to chase down the city worker who was locking the park gates so he could get out of the park around 6 p.m.

Moller said that on or around Friday a couple was in the park at 6:30 p.m. when they noticed the gates were being locked.

Moller said the couple was able to get out of the park, but said maybe there should be signs telling people when the park closes.

"To hear that citizens are being locked in the park at 6:30 is unacceptable," Councilman Lewis C. Metzner said.

City Administrator Bruce Zimmerman said Fairgrounds Park is open until 10 p.m. much of the year, but closes at dusk during the winter.
