hagerstown car thefts

March 06, 2002

Hagerstown police are investigating a rash of thefts of construction tools from vehicles, Detective Carroll Braun of the Hagerstown Police Department said Tuesday.

More than $7,000 worth of tools and accessories such as drills, saws and drill bits have been stolen during the past three weeks from construction vehicles parked at private residences in Hagerstown and surrounding areas, Braun said.

Detectives think one person is responsible for the thefts and are pursuing several leads, Braun said.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone who may have purchased these types of tools from an individual should contact detectives at 301-790-3700, ext. 234.

Police suggest tool owners compile a written record of the following information from tools they own: Brand name, model number, serial number, size and any attachments. This information, which should be kept in a safe place, will help police identify the tools if they are recovered after being stolen.
