Middletown to host North Hagerstown-roundup

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Middletown earned a right to play North Hagerstown for the Maryland Class 2A West championship with an 77-70 win over Fort Hill on Thursday.

Middletown will host North at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

John Keimig scored 17 points while Jack O'Leary and Pete Collwell added 14 apiece for Middletown (17-7).

Thomas Johnson 68, North County 35: At Ferndale, Md., Jermaine Thomas had 29 points, eight rebounds and six assists as the top-seeded Patriots advanced to the region final with a suffocating effort on the defensive end. They held the Knights to just 10 points in the first half.

"We played really well on defense all night," TJ coach Tom Dickman said. "To hold them to 35 points, on their floor, that says something."

Nate Naylor and Thomas Richard both added 11 points for TJ (23-1), which plays the region final at home against No. 2 seed Meade, a 52-50 winner over Frederick in the other semifinals, on Saturday. Richard added six rebounds.

Poolesville 63, Brunswick 51: At Poolesville, Brunswick's leading scorer, Larry Brown, was out due to an automobile accident as the Railoraders lost. Jesse Ault led Brunswick with 14 points and five assists. Matt Maught had 10 rebounds and Matt Feldman had nine.

Broadfording 64, New Life 46: In Baltimore, Kyle Nicholson had 19 points, Sean Moore scored 17 points and 12 rebounds, Calvin Berry had 15 points while John Bakner had 11 for Broadfording.

Zach Kiddy scored a game-high 22 points for New Life. Daniel Bayles added 13 points for the team. Broadfording is now 21-13 and will play in the Maryland Christian State Championships at Washington Bible College Saturday at 3 p.m.
