Pa. man sentenced for selling heroin

March 01, 2002

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man charged with selling heroin to a police informant last year was sentenced Wednesday.

Robert F. Katavitch, 556 S. Second St., had previously pleaded guilty to delivery of heroin for the Feb. 7, 2001, incident in which he sold heroin to a Pennsylvania State Police confidential informant outside of Hardee's in Chambersburg, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

"He was doing a favor for someone. It was a set-up," defense attorney Jackie Leder said.

Judge Richard Walsh ordered Katavitch, 28, to pay a $500 fine and serve six months in the Franklin County Prison work release program followed by three months of intense supervision.

Walsh also told Katavitch, who suffers from epileptic seizures, that if his medical condition keeps him from getting a job he must have it documented by a physician.
