Jeffrey L. Rockwell


BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Jeffrey L. Rockwell, 47, of Valley View Nursing Home, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at the home.

Born March 20, 1954, in Fort Lee, Va., he was the son of the late Robert B. and Della G. Bennett Rockwell.

He was employed by Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove, Pa. for 10 years; by Jerr Dan Corp., in Greencastle, Pa.; and was last employed by the Martinsburg Journal in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by one daughter, Karli Brea Rockwell of Martinsburg; five brothers, Larry G. Rockwell of Yakima, Wash., Gary L. Rockwell of Mercersburg, Pa., Robert E. Rockwell of Middletown, Md. and Rodney J. Rockwell and Steven P. Rockwell, both of Martinsburg; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg. Lt. Col. Dennis Yocum will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

There will be no viewing; the family will receive friends Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy E. Chaney


WILLIAMSPORT -Dorothy Elizabeth Chaney, 92, of 154 N. Artizan St., died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Williamsport Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 18, 1909, in Greenwood, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Omer Clarence and Darla Fisher Green.

She was a graduate of Indiana University.

She was a member of Greenwood Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Louis Hasler Chaney; two sons, Louis L. Chaney of Hagerstown and Larry O. Chaney of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris Green and Forrest Green; and one grandson.

Private graveside services were held Thursday, Feb. 28, at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ashely L. Shook officiated.

Arrangements were by Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown.




Virginia L. Huntsberger


Virginia Lee Huntsberger, 58, of 626 Young Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at her home.

Born March 12, 1943, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Virginia Petticord Barry.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Trovinger of Hagerstown; three sons, John Custer and Dean Trovinger, both of Hagerstown, and Charles Haller III of Knoxville, Md.; three sisters, Vickie Dutrow of Howard County, Md., Nancy Shoemaker of Hagerstown and Sue Ellen Zielinski of New Jersey; one brother, James Barry of Laurel, Md.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.




Ray E. Bivens


HANCOCK - Ray Eugene Bivens, 75, of Weller Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Homeward of Williamsport.

Born May 28, 1926, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Hezekiah Paul and Alta Virginia Myers Bivens.

He attended Weller School near Hancock.

He retired from Hancock Motor Co., where he was the service manager and worked as a mechanic. He was a farmer.

He was a member of Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, and served as treasurer.

He was a member of James W. Bowers AF & AM 173 of Hancock; Hancock Board of Directors of Southern States Cooperative; and Washington County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Izora B. Shoemaker Bivens, whom he married Oct. 21, 1944; one daughter, Helen M. Miller of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one son, Carl E. Bivens of Mercersburg, Pa.; one granddaughter; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, Hancock. The Rev. Harry E. Strite will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, which will open at 3 p.m. Visitation also will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Alice E. Miller


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Alice E. Miller, 78, of Menno Haven, and formerly of 9619 Eden Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Menno Haven.

Born July 7, 1923, in Edenville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John H. and Carrie Poe Miller.

She was a 1942 graduate of St. Thomas (Pa.) High School.

She had been employed by Stanley Co.; and later was co-owner of Garnet Miller Orchard on Eden Drive.

She attended Mount Olivet United Brethren Church.

She is survived by one niece; one great-niece and one great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.
