Shepherd men out of WVC

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - George Bullock had 21 points and nine rebounds Tuesday to lead No. 7 seed Fairmont State to a 78-62 win over over No. 10 Shepherd in the first round of the West Virginia Conference men's tournament.

Keith Davis hit the opening basket of the second half to cut Fairmont's 35-27 lead to six. The Falcons (18-10) countered with a 17-8 run to move to a 52-37 lead with 12 minutes remaining and ice the game.

Shepherd (10-17) was led by Ryan Jones with 15 points and eight rebounds while Demond Tapscott added 14. Tapscott finished his Shepherd career with 1,076 points, placing him 22nd on the Rams' all-time scoring list.

Fairmont advances to the WVC quarterfinals against No. 2 seeded Alderson-Broaddus on Thursday at Charleston.
