Boy on bike hit

February 27, 2002

A 5-year-old boy on his bicycle accidentally rode into the back of a sport utility vehicle as it was backing up, Hagerstown Police said Tuesday.

Officer Korey Hinkle said the boy hurt his head and neck, but the injuries did not appear to be serious. The boy was taken to Washington County Hospital to be examined.

The names of the boy and the woman driving the vehicle, a Ford Bronco, were not available Tuesday night.

The accident occurred at Court 2, off Noland Drive, at about 6:30 p.m.

Hinkle said the woman in the Ford was backing up to get out of a parking space. Just as she was about to stop and put the vehicle into drive, the boy's bicycle hit the back of the vehicle, Hinkle said.

No charges were filed.
