FREDERICK, Md. - Two cars collided nearly head-on Tuesday on Md. 80, sending both drivers to the hospital, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.

Patricia Greenwald, 57, of Sykesville, Md., was listed in serious condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center Tuesday night. She was driving a 1996 Volvo station wagon west, police said.

Debra Heffner, 37, of Germantown, Md., was listed in critical condition at the Shock Trauma Center. Police said she was driving east in a 2001 Acura Integra.

The two cars collided near the intersection of Md. 80 and Park Mills Road just before 4:30 p.m., police said.

FREDERICK, Md. - The driver of a fuel truck was hospitalized Tuesday when the truck flipped over, spilling 400 gallons of fuel, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.


Carolyn Smith, 40, of Frederick, was driving a 1987 International truck north on Ballenger Creek Pike. The truck turned over at about 2:20 p.m. as it went around a curve, police said.

Police said Smith was trapped in the truck for several minutes.

She was later flown by police helicopter to Washington County Hospital, where she was listed in good condition Tuesday night.

A hazardous materials team from Fort Detrick and the Carroll Manor Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the call.

BRUNSWICK, Md. - A 68-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on charges that he sexually abused two minors last month.

Noel Conrad Shewbridge of 1100 Peach Orchard Lane, No. 214, Brunswick, was arrested at his home, Brunswick Police said.

Shewbridge was charged with two counts of third-degree sex offense and one count each of fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault.

He was released on his own recognizance.

The offense is alleged to have occurred Jan. 28 on the 200 block of West Potomac Street in Brunswick, police said.

FREDERICK, Md. - Police in Frederick on Tuesday night were investigating a report that a pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck at the intersection of West Patrick Street and Old Camp Road.

An emergency dispatcher said the victim, a 25-year-old man, was being taken to Washington County Hospital.

No other information was available.
