North Hagerstown posted a trio of 20s on the scoreboard to beat Centennial in the 2A West quarterfinals

The numbers all went the way of North Hagerstown on Tuesday.

The Hubs scored 20 points in three of the four quarters. Centennial scored nine points in three of the four quarters.

Wash out the other periods in which each team scored 15 and ... well, three 20s beat three nines every time.

That simple arithmetic added up to a big 75-42 win for the Hubs over the Eagles in a Class 2A West quarterfinal playoff game.

Speaking of numbers, North's Scott Rice put up some big numbers himself. Rice had 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.

Rice is third on the Hubs' all-time scoring list with 1,068 career points, just four points behind John Smothers.

Ted Schoeck is the all-time scoring leader at North Hagerstown with 1,104 career points.

"I was pretty excited," Rice said. "We usually don't play good in the first half. But we actually did that tonight. I thought that we played better offensively. We have got a lot of people that can score."

Eugene Taylor came off of the bench to score 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while Clif Carey had 10 points and six assists for North (20-3). Kevin McConnaughey added six rebounds and four blocked shots, while Tavis Green made five steals.

"I thought that we did a nice job of really picking up the tempo and defending," North Hagerstown coach Tim McNamee said. "We did a better job of that in the second half when we put the game out of reach."

Bill Brudis led the Eagles (10-14) with 15 points.

"There are no weak spots on that team," Centennial coach Jim Hill said of the Hubs.
