Locals named to state groups



Gov. Parris Glendening nominated four Washington County residents to various state boards and commissions Friday.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> Sydney L. Machat, a Keedysville real estate agent, was named to the State Real Estate Commission.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> Susan T. Tuckwell, a Hagerstown public relations adviser, was named to the Governor's Wellmobile Program Advisory Board.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> Anton T. Dahbura, vice president of Hub Labels in Hagerstown, was named to the Hagerstown Community College Board of Trustees.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> Robert J. Verdeyen of Hagerstown, director of standards for the American Correctional Association, was named to the Commission on Correctional Standards.

The names were among 245 statewide who were nominated as part of Glendening's annual "Green Bag" appointment list.

The governor traditionally delivers most of his annual appointments to the Maryland Senate using a handcrafted green leather pouch embossed with the state seal.

Also on the list was the former state senator for Frederick and Washington counties John W. Derr, who was named to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, and former U.S. Sen. J. Glenn Beall Jr., who was nominated for the Canal Place Preservation Authority.

The Senate must confirm all the nominees.
