FREDERICK, Md. - Kristal Hood had 17 points and six steals, while Maria Brown added 14 points and five steals as the Cadets (18-3, 11-1 Central Maryland) held Thomas Johnson to 10 first-half points in a 54-30 victory on Saturday.

Amanda Jones had 19 points for the Patriots.

UNION BRIDGE, Md. - Francis Scott Key hit four 3-pointers in a 17-2 first period on their way to a win over Williamsport.

The Wildcats (6-15, 4-13) got as close as eight late in the fourth quarter, but fumbled away a chance at a layup and a six-point game.

Lindsey Plotner had 18 points for Williamsport.

Moyets finish 2nd, 3rd

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - St. James' Will Moyet lost in double-overtime in the 135-pound finals, settling for second at the Maryland Independent Schools tournament. Jon Moyet finished third at 130 as the Saints finished third in the team standings. Jon Moyet finished 37-1 on the season, while Will Moyet finished 37-3.

Mercersburg places four

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - Grant Taylor finished fourth in his weight class as Mercersburg Academy finished 16th out of 43 teams at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools state tournament. Taylor went 4-2 at 152 pounds in the tournament, improving his record to 37-8.

Nate Fochtman finished fifth at 275, going 3-2 in the tourney. Fochtman is 26-6 overall.

Seth Greenberg (135) and Kenan Wright (125) both finished sixth. Greenberg went 3-3 in the tourney and is 33-9, while Wright went 4-3 in the tourney and is 36-10.

"We have a yvery young tean, and we did well," Mercersburg coach Rick Hendrickson said. "Four state placewinners is very good."

Jefferson 11th at states

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Jefferson's 200-yard freestyle relay team finished fifth with a team-record time of 1 minute, 40.72 seconds as the Cougars placed 11th out of 35 teams at the West Virginia state championships.

On the relay were Logan Zagarella, Jake Iden, Kevin Writt and Louis Strube.

Rocheck 4th for Bulldogs

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Martinsburg's Mary Rocheck finished fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.70 as the Bulldogs finished 18th out of 35 teams at the West Virginia state championships. Hedgesville finished 12th.

Team Results - 1. Parkersburg 213, 2. Bridgeport 178, 3. Nitro 157. Locals - 12. Hedgesville 26, 18. Martinsburg 11.
