Ames stores not scheduled to close

The Ames Department Stores in the Tri-State area are not scheduled to close despite local advertising that several Ames stores in Maryland and Pennsylvania are having liquidation sales, a corporate spokeswoman said Thursday.

Ames officials announced in December that 54 stores would close by early March, spokeswoman Amy Romano said. That is the last round of store closings expected, she said.

Ames is reorganizing after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last August, Romano said.

Ames has stores in Hagerstown, Frederick, Md., Mount Airy, Md., Chambersburg, Pa., and Waynesboro, Pa., that are not scheduled to close, Romano said.
