MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman while she was walking near Rosedale Cemetery Feb. 5.

The woman was walking alone on Jenny Wren Drive, located off W.Va. 45 just west of Martinsburg, when a man operating a silver or light purple Mitsubishi Eclipse pulled up to her, said Cpl. D.S. McGown of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

The man asked the woman if she wanted a ride. She declined and the man drove away, said McGown.

The woman continued walking on Jenny Wren Drive, then took a shortcut across Rosedale Cemetery and onto Cemetery Road, McGown said.

The woman was near the south end of the cemetery when the same man walked up to her from behind, said McGown.

The man grabbed the woman, pulled her into a lightly wooded area about 10 yards off the road and sexually assaulted her, said McGown.

During the assault, the woman dropped a cell phone. The man picked up the cell phone and removed a battery inside so the woman could not call for help, McGown said.

The man then offered the woman a ride home, McGown said. The woman refused and the man walked away on Cemetery Road in the direction of Jenny Wren Drive, McGown said.

The woman ran from the scene.

The man is described as a white male between 21 and 25 years of age, being about five feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds. He has a slightly muscular build, brown hair that is short on the sides and slightly longer on top and a thick brown goatee covering the entire bottom of the chin, McGown said.

He was last seen wearing a tan imitation leather jacket and tan pants.

Anyone with information about the case can call the sheriff's department at 1-304-267-7000.
