Clear Spring's Vikki Nelson to run in District 2A

ANNAPOLIS - Republican Vikki Nelson will run for election to a newly opened delegate seat in northern Washington County, she said Tuesday.

Nelson, 58, of Clear Spring, decided to run after she saw that no incumbents would be running in District 2A, which now stretches from Big Pool to Cascade.

The seat is held by Del. Robert A. McKee, R-Washington, but new district boundaries drawn by Gov. Parris Glendening put McKee's house in neighboring District 2B.

McKee has said he will run in 2B against Del. Christopher B. Shank, R-Washington.

Nelson, who is on the Republican Central Committee, filed her paperwork Monday.

"I think I've got the chance to be the best Republican they've got running. I've been involved in politics for more years than enough," she said.

Four years ago, she lost a bid to unseat Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington.

Two other candidates have announced their intention to run in 2A.

They are Clear Spring Republican LeRoy Myers Jr., 50, who runs a commercial contracting business, and Hagerstown Democrat Peter E. Perini Sr., 38, who runs a nursing home management business.
