March 2 designated Buffalo Soldier Day



The Funkstown Town Council on Monday night discussed Buffalo Soldier Day, which will be held March 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Martin Luther King Center.

The center is at 131 W. North St. in Hagerstown.

Features of Buffalo Soldier Day include the Baltimore Chapter of the 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry member; Vision Quest and the Medal of Honor awarded to Cpl. Wm. O. Wilson, 9th U.S. Cavalry, Buffalo Soldiers, will be on display. It is the only Medal of Honor ever awarded to a Washington County native, according to press statement.

The grand niece of Wilson, Augutus Walley, will also attend.

The speaker will be Tiger Davis, a member of the Maryland House of Delegates.
